I refer to the two orangutans who escaped from their
enclosures on Sunday 28 May 2017 and ask: (a) Has the investigation been completed: (i) If so will you table the report; and (ii) If not, when will it be completed; (b) When was the Minister or Ministerial staff alerted to this incident; (c) Has the Minister or any of the Minister’s staff been briefed on the incident, ongoing investigation or completed investigation: (i) If yes, who was briefed, what was the extent of the briefing and on what dates; and (d) Since 1 January 2017 has there been any other animal escapes from a Perth Zoo enclosure?

(b)-(c) A verbal briefing was provided to the Minister for Environment’s Senior Media Adviser on 28 May 2017, and to the Minister and Chief of Staff on 29 May 2017. A briefing note and the tabled report were subsequently provided to the Minister on 29 June 2017.
(d) On 9 February 2017, a Wonga Pigeon escaped the Tropical walk-in aviary. The Wonga Pigeon was recovered and returned to the aviary within five minutes.
