Given that the minister is aware that moneys deposited by doctors into trust accounts, including moneys received from bulk-billing, are not a tax deductible gift, what action will he take to clarify the position for the hundreds of doctors who use trust accounts as a means of managing their income, and who may be faced with a significant tax liability? Mr DAY

My professional background is in dentistry and I do not pretend to be an expert on taxation law. The Opposition is aware that an audit of trust accounts has been undertaken at Princess Margaret Hospital for Children and King Edward Memorial Hospital for Women. The most recent advice I received was that there was still some work to be completed. Once that process has been completed, appropriate further action, if any, will be taken. I am sure that the Metropolitan Health Service Board will take the relevant action.
