Retail barring orders
543. Mr Liam Staltari to
the Attorney General:
I refer to retail
barring orders that have worked successfully in other jurisdictions to reduce
violence and aggression against retail workers.
(1) Is the Attorney General aware of the success
of the retail barring orders in the ACT, which have seen a 99% drop in
offending against employees by repeat offenders in Woolworths stores?
(2) Will the state government be introducing into
Parliament this week legislation to ensure that it is passed this year?
(3) If not, why not?

(1)–(3) It was an election commitment to
implement retail barring orders.
Mr Basil Zempilas interjected.
The Speaker: Leader of the Opposition! The Attorney
General has said about five words. Give him time to respond and please do not
interject.
Dr Tony Buti: I am aware of the situation in the ACT.
I have had meetings with major supermarket chains, as has the Minister for
Police. We are working towards introducing our legislation into Parliament and
I look forward to the debate.
