AAA RATING AND NET DEBT-TO-REVENUE RATIO
I have a supplementary question. Will the Treasurer give any indication to the house of what he expects the net debt-to-revenue ratio to reach by the end of the forward estimates? Mr T.R. BUSWELL

AnswerView source ↗

That information will be supplied in the midyear review. Mr J.A. McGinty : You do not know, do you? Mr T.R. BUSWELL : I have an absolute idea. I will tell members a story. I asked the Treasury to give me an update every two weeks of the state’s financial position. I was asked why on earth I would want it. I thought to myself why the previous person would not want to know that sort of information. The answer was that he did not; he drifted along in complete fiscal ignorance for eight years. We are having to fix up the problem. We stood in this place year after year warning him about it, and he did absolutely nothing. We are working hard. We will achieve our goals, but it will be no thanks to him.
