TABCORP — AUSTRALIAN FEDERAL POLICE
INVESTIGATION
142. Mr M.P. MURRAY to the Treasurer:
I refer to the Australian Federal
Police investigation into alleged illegal payments to Cambodian interests by
Tabcorp in 2009–10.
(1) Can the
minister categorically rule out any cases of inducements being offered to any
state government staff by Tabcorp or any individuals or entities linked to
Tabcorp as part of the state government asset sales process?
(2) Will the
state government cease all negotiations with Tabcorp on a potential sale of the
TAB until the AFP has concluded its investigations?
(3) Did the
Treasurer change his TAB sale position before or after he learnt of Mr Elmer
Kupper's resignation?

(1)–(3) This
is the most bizarre question I have ever been asked; it is totally bizarre.
First, I suggest the member ask his questions about the TAB of the Minister for
Racing and Gaming. I have had no involvement or discussions with Tabcorp
whatsoever.
The idea that I would know whether
the TAB was giving bribes in Cambodia is absurd. The implication that we would
be involved and knowingly not disclose bribes given by Tabcorp to public
servants is outrageous. That is the implication. It is outrageous! If the
member has any indication that somebody in this state is receiving bribes from
Tabcorp, he should go to the Corruption and Crime Commission.
Mr
M.P. Murray interjected.
The
SPEAKER : Member for Collie–Preston, I call you to order for the
first time.
Dr
M.D. NAHAN : Again, it shows the low level of thought and desperation of the
people on the other side.
