(1) Will the minister please advise whether it is correct that last year only 56 insurance claims out of more than 40 000 were successful in overcoming the 30 per cent threshold? (2) If so, how many of the 56 claimants became eligible to sue, having exceeded the 30 per cent threshold as a result of their claims involving elements of stress, depression, psychological overlay or loss of sexual function? (3) Will the minister also advise how, given this very low success rate, there can be a crisis in the insurance industry unless the insurance industry is contriving it? Hon KIM CHANCE

I thank the member for some notice of this question. I have an answer to the question, but I need to preface the answer by saying that I do not understand the question, I do not understand the answer and I do not understand how the answer relates to the question. I will provide the answer that I have been given, with that codicil. However, I think Hon John Fischer and I will need to talk about the question a little more so that we can reach a better understanding of it. This answer may be satisfactory. As I said, I do not understand it. I suspect that it will not satisfy the honourable member and that we will need to get a better understanding of what the question is asking. (1) No. (2) Not applicable. (3) It would appear the honourable member’s question regarding a crisis in the insurance industry relates to public liability, which is not an issue for the workers compensation system. Members might now understand why I was a little confused. It may make sense to Hon John Fischer.
