I thank the member for some notice of this question. (1) The state government continues to support community housing through the development of a five-year strategic plan, completed in consultation with the community sector. The main object of the plan is to establish key providers to assist the expansion of community housing in Western Australia. The announcement of the key providers will occur shortly. (2) All public housing tenants and the broader community of suburbs included in the government’s continuing redevelopment program, the New Living program will benefit. (3) There are now seven current New Living projects under way in metropolitan Perth, and a further 10 in country areas. The metropolitan projects, covering 13 suburbs, include: Bentley - Brownlie Towers; Coolbellup; Eastern Horizons - Midland, Midvale, Swanview and Koongamia; Langford - almost completed; the New North - Balga, Girrawheen, Koondoola and Westminster; Phoenix Rise - Hamilton Hill; and Queens Park. The 10 country projects include: Spencer Park-Mt Lockyer - Albany; Carey Park and Withers - Bunbury; Collie; Nulsen - Esperance; South Kalgoorlie; Rangeway, Spalding, Utakarra and Waggrakine - Geraldton; South Carnarvon, Brockman and Morgan Town - Carnarvon; South Hedland; Moora; and Narrogin - West. (4) The New Living program commenced in 1995 and will continue until approximately 2009. It is estimated that some $500 million will be spent on the program during that period.
