ROEBOURNE
ART GROUP
913. Hon JON FORD to the parliamentary secretary
representing the Minister for Regional Development:
The parliamentary secretary has suddenly matured into the
Attorney General!
Hon Michael Mischin : Value-added!
Hon JON FORD : That is right!
I refer to the ''Royalties for Regions Progress Report
July 2011–June 2012'' that shows that on 21 June 2010 cabinet
approved $1.5 million to build a new art centre for the Roebourne Art Group.
(1) Will the
minister confirm that he has received a request from the Roebourne Art Group
Indigenous artists to meet and discuss whether the $1.5 million is still
available and how it will be spent; and has the minister responded to those
requests?
(2) If the minister has not responded, why not?
(3) Has the
minister received a proposal from the Roebourne Art Group to refurbish an
existing Roebourne heritage building for $900 000 as an alternative; and, if
so, why will the minister not support this cheaper alternative, given that it
is the preferred option of the Indigenous stakeholders?
(4) Given that
the Roebourne Art Group's senior Roebourne artists can presently walk
to their workshop in Roebourne, which will not be possible when the centre is
relocated to Cossack, why will the minister not assist the art group in
negotiations for an alternative proposal?
