PERTH
STADIUM — PROGRESS
194. Mrs G.J. GODFREY to the
Minister for Transport:
The minister revealed in February the new Perth Stadium train
station design. At the time the minister mentioned an alliance would soon be
appointed to build the station and associated infrastructure works. Could the
minister please update the house on the background and any news on this fantastic
project?

I thank the member for her ongoing interest in this fantastic
commitment and project that the government is working on. It is fantastic to
say that this project is definitely one that the member for Victoria Park 100 per
cent supports, even though the Leader of the Opposition is against it. We have
done a lot about this stadium. It is a great pleasure to walk through exactly
what has happened. In June 2014, I announced that Hassell Ltd was awarded the
$5.5 million contract to prepare and design the stadium. In September, public
tenders for an alliance contract were called for the design and construction of
the stadium station and associated infrastructure. In October 2014, three
proponents were shortlisted. Today, I am proud to announce that the prism
alliance, a consortium of major construction company Laing O'Rourke and
engineering company AECOM, has been selected to construct this $100 million
project. It is just one part of the $358 million integrated transport solution
for the project. The station is a vital part of Perth Stadium. On game day, it
will allow the movement of 28 000 passengers to depart the new Perth Stadium
within an hour. It is fantastic. This stadium will create 5 700 jobs and has
engaged 58 companies. It is fantastic for this state. I am really pleased that
the member for Victoria Park supports this project 100 per cent, even if the
rest of the opposition does not. Laing O'Rourke and AECOM will mobilise
this on site very quickly and we will make sure that we build this station
ahead of time so that it can be tested properly, so when the stadium opens for
the start of the 2018 AFL season, it is all ready to go. There will be six
platforms shifting 28 000 people. It is a fantastic outcome for this state and
more evidence that this government is delivering on its commitments.
