PRISONS — LIFE
BEYOND PROGRAM
976. Hon LOUISE KINGSTON to the minister representing the
Minister for Corrective Services:
I
refer to a recent article on ABC news on 18 July 2024 regarding the Life Beyond
education program at the Eastern Goldfields Regional Prison, designed to
help prisoners with decision-making and basic scientific concepts.
(1) When will this program be rolled
out to other prisons?
(2) What plans are there to
implement additional ''bite-sized'' programs to WA prisons across
the state?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question. I note that this question was asked on 12 August,
so the answer is current as at that date. The Department of Justice advises as
follows.
(1) The Life
Beyond program was conducted at Eastern Goldfields Regional Prison and Bandyup
Women's Prison during July 2024.
This program is intended to be delivered at other prison sites, targeting both
male and female prisoners. However, this program is facilitated by an
external provider, which affects the timing, location and frequency of
delivery.
(2) A range of
similar short programs and workshops delivered by external providers is
available to prisoners across the state on an ongoing basis.
