I refer to the provision of funds from the Department of Indigenous Affairs (DIA) for a human resource to ensure appropriate repatriation of stolen bones, and I ask —
(1) Is the DIA going to provide funding for wages and on costs for Mr Neil Carter as the Organisations Repatriations and Cultural Heritage Officer beyond 31 December 2012?
(2) If no to (1), why not?
(3) If no to (1), what expectation does the DIA have of the Kimberley Aboriginal Law and Culture Centre that this program can continue?
(4) If no to (1), what assurances will the DIA provide to the Aboriginal people of the Kimberley that their cultural heritage will be protected and respected?
(5) Will the Minister consider continuing the funding for this project to its completion?

(1) The Department of Indigenous Affairs (DIA) currently provides grant funding to the Kimberley Aboriginal Law and Culture Centre for a Cultural (KALACC) Heritage Repatriations Officer. DIA is formally assessing the outcomes of this grant agreement and KALACC's proposals for any extension of the program inclusive of Federal Contributions to the repatriation of remains returning from overseas.
