MR MARK PAXTON — FISHING LICENCE — BRIEFING FOR THE Leader of the Opposition
I thank the minister for his answer to my previous question on this matter in which he advised me that he would arrange an unrestricted personal briefing on this particular matter. Can the minister explain to me what an unrestricted personal briefing is, and does that mean there is such a thing as a restricted personal briefing; and, if so, what does that mean? Hon JON FORD

I thank the Leader of the Opposition for the question. We would not generally want the public to know certain information about licence operations, contractual arrangements and claims and counterclaims against people because of their confidential nature. Because of the Leader of the Opposition’s position, we would ask him not to pass on that information. We would be happy to show him the full picture so he understood that we were not putting a certain slant on one side or another. When I say “unrestricted”, the department would seek some undertaking from the Leader of the Opposition that any information that was disclosed to him in a commercial confidential manner would not be disclosed to anybody else.
