Water resources—Pilbara
975. Hon Neil Thomson to
the minister representing the Minister for
Water:
I note the concerns
of the traditional owners, pastoralists and other locals about the
sustainability of water resources in the Pilbara.
(1) Has the minister undertaken an assessment of
water allocations based on the recommendation of the Pilbara regional water plan 2010–2030 or
the 2013 Pilbara groundwater allocation plan ?
(2) What reviews have been undertaken since the WA
Labor government came to power in 2017?
(3) In answer to (2), can the minister table those
reviews?

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question. This answer has been
provided by the Minister for Water.
(1)–(3) The Cook
government has committed an additional $4.2 million in the 2025–26
state budget to accelerate water planning in the Pilbara over the next two
years to support regional development and address the impacts of climate
change. The Department of Water and Environmental Regulation manages the abstraction
of water via individual water licences, which includes site-specific
assessments of water resources to determine the suitable take.
