I refer the Minister to the Government’s Master Media Arrangement that gives details of the expenditure on Government advertising, and I ask -
(1) In the interests of open and accountable Government, will the Minister please provide a full and unabridged report on Government advertising since March 2001?
(2) If not, why not?

These documents have included far more information than has been made available at any time in the past. In contrast, the previous Government tabled a so-called 'Status Report' in the Legislative Assembly on 16 August 2000. The report was concocted to repudiate claims that the Coalition Government was wasting advertising dollars. It did not list individual campaigns. Significantly, no 'Status Report' was tabled in the final year of the Court Government. It would have revealed a massive blowout in Government advertising expenditure in the lead-up to the 2001 State Election. In the calendar year 2000, the Court Coalition Government spent $27.1 million, the highest spend on Government advertising ever recorded. Since the election of the Gallop Government, steps have been taken to curtail advertising spending through the budget process, to revise the format for recruitment advertising, public notices and tenders and rigorous guidelines have been introduced to ban political advertising.
