METHAMPHETAMINE WASTEWATER TESTING
785. Hon ADELE FARINA to the Attorney General
representing the Minister for Police:
I
refer to the minister's media statement concerning methamphetamine
wastewater testing released on 1 August 2016.
(1) What is the frequency of the
tests undertaken in Bunbury?
(2) How soon after each test is
undertaken do WA Police and the Minister for Police get the results?
(3) Will the
results for each future test be made available on the WA Police website when
the police receive the results?
(4) If no to (3), why not?

AnswerView source ↗

On behalf of the Minister for
Police, I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question.
(1) Samples are
collected over a seven-day period on a bimonthly basis. To date, samples were
collected in November 2015, January 2016, March 2016, May 2016 and August 2016.
(2) The time
frame for receiving the results depends on the capacity of the researchers at
the University of South Australia. Generally, the results are provided to Western
Australia Police approximately six weeks from when the samples are received by
the university.
(3)–(4) Western
Australia Police will release the results upon review and analysis being
completed and when it does not impact on future operational activity.
