MACHINERY —
QUARANTINE INSPECTIONS
1274. Hon COLIN de GRUSSA to the Minister for Agriculture and
Food:
I refer to the quarantine
inspection of machinery entering Western Australia via road.
(1) Are
inspections carried out at the point of entry into the state or are they
carried out at another location?
(2) If inspections are undertaken
at another location —
(a) why is this the case;
(b) what are the standard opening
hours for those locations; and
(c) are inspections able to be
undertaken outside normal opening hours; and, if so, at what cost?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1) Yes. Machinery that is
considered a lower risk can be inspected and cleared at point of entry.
(2) (a) The inspection of machinery considered to be a high
biosecurity risk requires facilities and expertise to dismantle machinery.
These types of inspections must be done at an approved quarantine facility.
(b) Approved
quarantine facilities are run by private operators and opening hours vary.
(c) Yes, with a booking
and subject to inspector availability. Biosecurity inspection fees are determined under the Biosecurity and Agricultural
Management Regulations 2013, regulation 125.
