I thank the honourable member for some notice of the
question. I can confirm that the coroner is currently reviewing nine cases
relating to deaths at Graylands Hospital, with a view
to conducting inquest hearings into those deaths. Inquests into two of those
matters were commenced in August 2012 and have been adjourned to December 2012.
All these matters were reported to the coroner under section 22(1)(a) of the
Coroners Act 1996 and are deemed to be mandatory inquests. Under section 25(3)
of the Coroners Act 1996, the coroner must comment on the quality of the
supervision, treatment and care of the person while in care.
