BIRTH CERTIFICATES
183. Hon BEN DAWKINS to the parliamentary secretary
representing the Minister for Health:
I refer to the concept of biological
sex in medicine and on birth certificates.
(1) Noting that even after transition surgery, a blood
test will show that a biological male is a male from the chromosomes
present, can the minister tell us if it is possible for a biological male to
become a biological female?
(2) Given that a birth certificate is a historical
record of birth, can the government confirm whether the re-i ssue of a birth
certificate with the altered sex at birth will not be introduced in this or the
next Parliament?
The PRESIDENT : Honourable
member, I just want to seek some advice about the first part of the question. I
will give the call to the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Health
and I am sure that the minister will attempt to answer the first part of the
question.
