I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question. The following information has been provided to me
by the Minister for Police.
The Western Australia
Police Force advises as follows.
(1) Accurate data
to answer this question is unable to be provided as vehicle ownership by
contractors and government workers is not able to be determined in WA Police
Force systems.
(2) A work
camp has been developed a short distance from the Fitzroy Crossing town site
for the sole purpose of accommodating contract staff employed on the bridge
project. This facility is surrounded by security fencing and has 24/7 security
on site who conduct proactive patrols and static guard duties, ensuring the
safety and security of employees and infrastructure.
(3) Operation
Regional Shield targets offenders who cause community harm. To deter incidents
of crime and antisocial behaviour, Fitzroy Crossing police conduct
high-visibility targeted patrols of locations used by contractors and workers.
In addition, local police regularly liaise with private security guards
employed by the workforce to contribute to contractor and worker safety.
