HOTELS
WITH HEART PROGRAM
977. Hon PETER COLLIER to the Leader of the House representing the Minister for Community
Services:
My question without notice is asked
on behalf of Hon Michael Mischin, who is on urgent parliamentary business.
I refer to the McGowan government's
Hotels with Heart program, announced by the minister on 31 March 2020.
(1) How many people were provided
with accommodation under the program?
(2) When was the program officially
terminated, and why?
(3) Did the minister receive a report
or reports evaluating the program?
(4) If yes to
(3), will the minister table a copy of that report or reports; and, if she
refuses to do so, will she explain why?
(5) How much did
the program cost, and was this money drawn from the department's
budget, or was it an allocation of additional funding?
(6) Will the minister please provide
a breakdown of the cost of the program, including —
(a) the cost of accommodation and how
much was paid to each hotel; and
(b) the cost of any additional cleaning and repairs to
premises or compensation to hoteliers for damage?
(7) How many reports were made by hoteliers or their
staff to the department or police, complaining of unlawful or antisocial
behaviour; and will the minister identify the nature of the complaints and the
action taken regarding them?
The
PRESIDENT : I probably should have
referenced this last week: there has been a trend over the last few weeks for questions to be excessively long and multi-parted and, in some cases, have
long preambles. You run the risk of having a very extended response in some
cases. As time pushes out during the question period, it might leave some members to miss out on an opportunity to have
a question or you might find there has not been enough time for the
responsible minister to provide an answer, so you may not get the response you
want. So I ask that you give consideration to the length of the question you
are putting forward to better time manage our question period.

A very long answer has been given to
a question asked as well. I will endeavour to take that up, too.
I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
The information is not available in
the time provided. I will endeavour to provide a response to the question by 24
September 2020.
