(1)       Where complaints are made about Carnaby’s cockatoos causing damage to agricultural crops, the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions’ (DBCA) wildlife officers provides advice on control options. Information is only recorded where a licence is issued. Since 1 January 2016, 21 damage licences have been issued by DBCA to scare Carnaby’s cockatoos.
(2)       City of Gosnells, 2 damage licences;
City of Swan, 2 damage licences;
City of Wanneroo, 1 damage licence;
Shire of Bridgetown/Greenbushes, 2 damage licences;
Shire of Mundaring, 1 damage licence; and
Shire of Manjimup, 13 damage licences
(3)       DBCA provides advice and support to the community including commercial producers regarding damage mitigation options in relation to Carnaby’s cockatoo. I table a copy of the Best practice guidelines for bird scaring in orchards which is also available from the DBCA website at https://www.dpaw.wa.gov.au/plants-and-animals/animals/living-with-wildlife . See tabled paper X.
DBCA has also produced an information package, Black Cockatoos in Orchards – All you need to know , which is available from the department upon request.
