I refer to the Bunbury Courthouse, which has lifts that have not operated since March 2025, and I ask: (a) why has the only lift been out of order for the last year; (b) when will the lift be fixed and when will it be operational; (c) what is the Government doing to assist those people who have to walk up the 38 stairs to Courthouse 1; (d) have there been any medical episodes resulting from people having to walk up the stairs; and (e) what is the Government doing to provide disabled access to Courtroom 1?

(a)   The lift was taken out of service for safety reasons following repeated failures. It is a model no longer supported in Australia and there is no access to spare parts, making repair unviable.
(b)   The lift will be fully replaced. The contract for its replacement has been awarded. The new lift will take 24 weeks to manufacture. It is anticipated it will be operational by October 2026.
(c)   Interim measures are in place. With the consent of the judiciary, clients requiring the lift to attend court are able to appear by video link from the CCTV room located on the ground floor.
(d)   The Department of Justice is not aware of any medical incidents directly attributable to the lift being out of service.
(e)   Access for court users with a disability is currently managed through video link appearance from the CCTV room located on the ground floor.
