Annual reporting obligations are specified in the Public Sector Management Act 1994 (PSMA), Financial Management Act 2006, Treasurer's Instructions, other legislation, Cabinet decisions, other Government policy statements and Public Sector Commission Circulars. This includes the number of employees in each entity.
Departments, sub-departments and statutory authorities are required by the Financial Management Act 2006 under Part 5 to prepare annual reports for Parliament, which is an important aspect in ensuring financial and performance accountability to Parliament.
Other agencies and government trading enterprises that are not subject to the Financial Management Act 2006 are required to prepare annual reports for Parliament in accordance with their enabling legislation.
Annual reports for departments, agencies and government trading enterprises are publicly available through each entity's website.
