MINING TAX — NATIONAL PARTY PROPOSAL
518. Mr M. McGOWAN to the Minister for
Regional Development:
I refer to the proposal by the
Leader of the National Party to impose a $5-per-tonne mining tax on Rio Tinto
and BHP Billiton. Will this policy proposal, if implemented, be good for and
create jobs for the regions?

AnswerView source ↗

I do not know if your guidance is
needed here, Mr Speaker, on whether this is a policy question for the National Party
or a question that relates to investing in regional Western Australia. The
Leader of the Opposition could ask the Leader of the National Party that
question, but this government stands on an incredible record of investment in
regional Western Australia, and will continue to do so. Despite the Leader of
the Opposition making premises about what policy settings we take forward, I know
this: the National Party will continue to deliver for regional Western Australia
and that is what we will be taking to the next election.
