I refer to the large number of trucks forced to use Great Northern Highway through the iconic Swan Valley due to delays in construction of a more appropriate route, and the impact this has on public safety and amenity of the Swan Valley tourism precinct; particularly given the increases in residential and tourism activity in the area, and I ask -
(1) When does the Government intend to begin work on this section of the Perth to Darwin Highway?
(2) Has the Government investigated possible new federal infrastructure funding for the project?
(3) What other steps are the Government taking or investigating, to reduce the high levels of road freight and vehicle traffic in the Swan Valley and surrounding areas?

(1) Planning is occurring now on the route definition study in consultation with WAPC and the construction will not begin for some years.
(2)  The State hasn't identified the final route or project costings therefore Commonwealth funds have not been asked for.
(3) The Government acknowledges the increasing traffic and is progressing the planning work needed before any project can commence. When planning is completed, the project will be assessed for funding.
