Several members interjected.
The PRESIDENT : Order! I am trying to hear Hon Ken
Baston ask a very important question and he is not as loud as other people in
this room, so if you would listen to him quietly, please.
Hon KEN BASTON : I refer to the residents of the
Jasmine Lane Group Home located in Kununurra.
(1) Does the
department keep a record of how many interactions occur between the police and
the residents of Jasmine Lane Group Home whilst they are not on the premises?
(2) If yes to
(1), how many times during the period from July to December 2019 were police
required to assist with the behaviour of the group home residents whilst they
were not on the premises?
(3) If no to
(1), why not?

(1) Yes. The Department of Communities records all WA
Police Force contacts with the residents of Jasmine Lane Group Home and
a record of any contact with WA police is entered on the relevant young person's
case file. In these instances, Communities
works closely with WA police, youth justice services and other agencies to develop plans to support the young person, keep them safe and divert them
from the justice system.
(2) The
information requested is not readily available from the Department of
Communities' child protection information system. Given that this
information is held on individual case files, it would impose a significant
administrative burden on Communities to source this data.
