The secondary graduation rate for Year 10 students: · represents the number of Year 10 students in Semester Two in Western Australian public schools divided by the number of Year 12 students in Western Australian public schools who achieved a Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) two years later; · is 'apparent' because it is calculated by comparing a Year 10 cohort with the graduating Year 12 cohort two years later. Because the measure does not track individual students, this rate can be affected by net changes in interstate and overseas migration, and student movement between public and private schools; · assumes a student in Year 10 will graduate (achieve WACE) two years later, although many students, for a variety of circumstances, take longer than two years to complete their WACE; and · excludes students at Canning and Tuart College, full-fee paying international students, and repeating students if they had previously achieved the WACE.
