TRANSWA — ROAD COACHES
503. Hon SALLY TALBOT to the
parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Transport:
I refer to the Minister for
Transport's media statement of 15 August 2014, titled ''New road
coaches for regional passengers''.
(1) Have all of the eight new road
coaches to be bought in 2014–15 been delivered?
(2) If no to (1), when will these
new road coaches be delivered?
(3) When are the
eight new road coaches to be bought in 2015–16 expected to be
delivered?
(4) Which routes will the first
eight new coaches service?

AnswerView source ↗

On behalf of the parliamentary secretary
representing the Minister for Transport, I thank the member for some notice of
the question.
(1) No.
(2) The road
coach procurement contract, which the delivery schedule is part of, is in the
process of being signed by the preferred supplier. Once the contract is signed,
the supplier has two months to formally frame and present to Transwa a delivery
schedule. It should be noted, however, that Transwa has have expressed to the
supplier that it requires 11 road coaches to be delivered in the 2015–16
financial year.
(3) With the
delay in the contractual negotiations and hence the contract award, the
proposed three-year delivery schedule has been compressed to a two-year
delivery schedule ending 30 June 2017. Therefore, all road coaches will be
delivered by the original scheduled due date. There will be 11 road coaches
delivered in the 2015–16 financial year and 12 road coaches delivered
in the 2016–17 financial year.
(4) The new road
coaches will initially service major Transwa routes, which include Perth–Geraldton
via Eneabba, Perth–Albany via Williams, Perth–Esperance, and
Perth–Augusta via Bunbury. Once the drivers are comfortable with the
operation of the new road coaches, the area of operation will expand to all
Transwa-operated routes.
