WELLINGTON DAM - DESALINATION
I refer to yesterday’s announcement about the desalination of Wellington Dam’s water by Griffin Coal. (1) How many gigalitres will be desalinated by the plant? (2) What is the cost-sharing arrangement between Griffin Coal and the state government? (3) Why is the government sponsoring a private desalination plant? Hon KIM CHANCE

I thank the member for some notice of this question. (1) The desalination plant will initially produce 3.2 gigalitres a year and has the potential to increase that figure to 6.4 gigalitres a year. (2) At this point Griffin Energy is not involved in the proposal. (3) The government is not sponsoring a private desalination unit.
