PROPOSED COMMERCIAL WIND FARM — CLIFTON
BEACH
560. Hon SALLY TALBOT to the minister representing the
Minister for Environment:
I refer to the withdrawal of the proposal for a commercial
wind farm at Clifton Beach and the subsequent offer for sale of the five rural
lots comprising the proposed site.
(1) Further to
recommendation 4 of the Environmental Protection Authority's ''Strategic
Environmental Advice on the Dawesville to Binningup Area'', which states
—
The Yalgorup National Park should be:
a. extended and
consolidated, by incorporating private vegetated enclaves west of the Yalgorup
lakes and other adjacent reserved lands; and
b. amended to
significantly extend the vegetation buffer, particularly around the wetland
areas of Lake Clifton and Lake Preston, including the eastern side.
Will the government acquire the land
on offer?
(2) If no to (1), why not?

I thank the honourable member for some notice of this
question.
(1)–(2)
The Yalgorup National Park management plan includes an action to acquire, by
purchase or exchange when opportunities arise and funds are available, private
property enclaves and properties adjoining the park that have exceptional
conservation or recreation values, management benefits, or that could protect
areas with these values within the park. In accordance with the management plan
and the Environmental Protection Authority's recommendation, if the
Clifton Beach land becomes available for purchase, the opportunity will be
given consideration.
