Ms Davies asks if the government will strengthen laws to protect primary producers from animal activists. The Premier acknowledges the question but states he's unaware of legal deficiencies and believes existing trespass laws are sufficient, deferring to police and the DPP.

ANIMAL ACTIVIS M
62. Ms M.J. DAVIES to the Premier:
I have a supplementary question. Has
the Premier or the government ruled out strengthening existing laws to protect
primary producers, landholders and transport companies against the disturbing
and potentially illegal behaviour of animal activists?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the member for the question.
Again, it is a reasonable question. I am not aware of any deficiencies in the
law. There are penalties available, particularly for trespass. If people
trespass on another person's property, I am advised that penalty is
quite serious. I do not have the penalty to hand. I can probably provide the
member with that advice. If there is a deficiency in the law, I am sure that
the police and/or the Director of Public Prosecutions will bring it to the
government's attention.
