DISABILITY SERVICES SECTOR — WAGE PARITY
I ask a supplementary question. Will it be justifiable, given that WA is a rich state, for the government to get services on the cheap if it does not close the wage gap? Mr C.J. BARNETT

No. Some people have suggested that that was the objective of the partnership forum. It is not. The objective of the forum is to maintain and improve services for growing social needs in our communities. Mr E.S. Ripper : We’ve got an extra billion dollars in royalty revenue. Why don’t you use it to correct some of these injustices? Mr C.J. BARNETT : The Leader of the Opposition has spent any money that this state has about 10 times over. Every day he has a new idea for spending it. We are trying to set up a unique, new and modern relationship with the non-government sector to improve services in areas such as disability, mental health and homelessness. It has been enthusiastically taken up by the non-government sector. The first issue on the table was the issue of the wage gap. We will address that wage gap in the contracts as they are awarded, otherwise the non-government sector will not take up them up.
