The Responsible Development of Western Australia’s Resources.
The platform states, in relation to Bauxite and Alumina, at 5.5 that Labor will “ensure that variations to Alumina Agreements are obtained to excise proposed national parks, nature reserves and conservation reserves from relevant mineral leases” -
(1) What are the proposed variations to Alumina Agreements?

(1) The identification of additional areas of high conservation within the relevant State Agreement mining leases has been undertaken as part of the development of the new Forest Management Plan (“FMP”) that should be in place by 01 January 2004. Variations are proposed for the Alcoa and Worsley Alumina Agreements to preclude mining in these areas. (2) It is anticipated that Variations to the Alumina Agreements will be signed after commencement of the new FMP.
