STATE ECONOMY —
COMMSEC REPORT
310. Mr D.C. NALDER to the Premier:
I refer to the latest CommSec report
that shows that Western Australia is last in economic growth of all states and
territories and is second last to last in all economic indicators. Why has the
state's economy gone backwards under the Premier's leadership?

The thing about the member for
Bateman is he does not remember what happened yesterday. I want to outline what
some people have had to say about the CommSec report. I want to quote someone
authoritative on these sorts of issues about CommSec —
''This survey and its ranking
provides us no information at all and some people will try to spin it as a negative
and talk down the economy,''
That was Mike Nahan on 25 July 2016.
I will give members another one. This report —
'' offers a false picture of
WA relative to other States.''
That was another one from Mike Nahan
on 23 January 2017. Another one, the member will like this one; I quote —
''It is a flawed, an appalling
piece of economic analysis to try and compare Western Australia today with
where it was at the peak of the commodities cycle,''
That was Colin Barnett on 24 January
2017. So we have both the member's former leader and his current leader
on record saying that CommSec does not offer a fair comparison, because it
compares Western Australia today with the peak of the boom, yet the member
comes in here and quotes them as evidence for his case. It is pathetic.
