I refer to the proposed Coalmine in Osmington, Margaret River, and ask -
(1) Would the proposed haulage route present a risk to the environmental values of the State Forest through which it is proposed to construct a road for the haulage of the coal?
(2) Would the Department and the Minister support the excision of part of the State Forest for the purposes of constructing a road for the mine?
(3) If yes to (2), what conditions would be imposed?

The Minister for Environment has provided the following response:
(1-3) It would be inappropriate for the Minister for Environment to comment at this time. The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) has recently determined, based on the referral information and its own investigations and inquiries, that there is adequate information to demonstrate that Vasse Coal Management's coal mining proposal is environmentally unacceptable. The proposal does include road works in State forest and this is a matter that the EPA will address in the assessment report it is preparing. I will await the EPA's assessment report before making any decision about this proposal.
