I thank the honourable member for some notice of this question. Mr President, given the time and your predilection for succinct responses, I table the answer and seek leave to have the response incorporated in Hansard . Leave granted. [See paper 1595.] The following material was incorporated - I thank the Hon. Member for some notice of this question. (1) The Government offers a number of affordable housing initiatives. In 2006/2007 3000 lots will be released through the Department of Housing and Works including blocks targeted to first homebuyers which are priced in the lower 25 per cent of the residential land market. Land releases suitable for first homebuyers are being progressed in Kwinana, Brookdale, Armadale and Swan View in the metropolitan area, and also Glen Iris in Bunbury. Special projects are also being undertaken for example including display homes with total house and land package prices not exceeding $210,000. As part of the New Living program, some ex-rental properties are offered for sale and many of these are in the price range of first homebuyers. In 2006-07, 137 lots will be created and 293 homes will be refurbished and sold. Currently homes are being offered for sale in the suburbs of Balga, Girrawheen, Hamilton Hill, Queens Park, Koondoola and Ashfield. Through Keystart, low deposit home loans are offered generally to lower income households with approximately 5,000 new loans in 2006-07. Within the Keystart umbrella there are more specific products aimed at special needs groups including Indigenous people, people with disabilities and those on very low incomes. More than 300 Homeswest tenants have purchased their homes through the GoodStart Home Loan scheme since 2001/02. A safety net can also be provided for those who get into difficulties repaying their loan. A new low deposit shared equity loan product for lower income households is being introduced. In addition a new shared equity loan arrangement to improve access to home ownership by Indigenous people is being developed to facilitate home ownership among members of the Gumala Aboriginal Corporation, many of whom reside in Homeswest accommodation in the Pilbara. A memorandum of understanding had been arranged between Gumala Investments and the Department, and loan packages have been sent to members for consideration. Income eligibility levels for Homeswest housing have been increased for the first time in ten years with effect from 1 May 2006 and the rent paid by public housing tenants remains capped at no more than 25% of their income. More than 800 new properties will be procured. Under the Regional Upgrade Strategy a further 200 new units will commence. The Department and the Community Housing sector are also working closely to increase the supply of affordable housing. Bond assistance to assist households into private rental is also available through the Department of Housing and Works however, there is a pressing need for the Commonwealth Government to increase levels of rent assistance. In terms of policy development, the State Government is part of the National Affordable Housing Project overseen by the Housing Ministers’ Conference and the Housing Strategy WA draft discussion document includes affordability as one of its three key themes, along with sustainability and equity. (2) Generally affordable housing initiatives are aimed at households earning around $50,000 or less. (3) The following figures represent the total number of land sales (at the lower 25 per cent of the residential land market in 2005-06), bonds assistance, and home loans arranged through the Department and Keystart Home Loans. land sales bonds Home loans 2001/2002 997 15254 3998 2002/2003 1036 15539 3492 2003/2004 643 14128 4205 2004/2005 839 12021 5417 July05/May06 1018 9050 3974

(3) The following figures represent the total number of land sales (at the lower 25 per cent of the residential land market in 2005-06), bonds assistance, and home loans arranged through the Department and Keystart Home Loans. land sales bonds Home loans 2001/2002 997 15254 3998 2002/2003 1036 15539 3492 2003/2004 643 14128 4205 2004/2005 839 12021 5417 July05/May06 1018 9050 3974
I thank the Hon. (3) The following figures represent the total number of land sales (at the lower 25 per cent of the residential land market in 2005-06), bonds assistance, and home loans arranged through the Department and Keystart Home Loans. land sales bonds Home loans 2001/2002 997 15254 3998 2002/2003 1036 15539 3492 2003/2004 643 14128 4205 2004/2005 839 12021 5417 July05/May06 1018 9050 3974
[See paper 1595.] The following material was incorporated - I thank the Hon.
