WALKAWAY PRIMARY SCHOOL - ABLUTION FACILITIES
(1) Is the minister aware that Walkaway Primary School has had temporary ablution facilities for a period of 14 years, creating an unhygienic environment and interrupting school activities, due to the odour problem? (2) If so, can the minister explain why permanent facilities have not been erected, especially given the budget surplus? (3) Will the minister commit to immediate funding to build permanent ablution facilities as soon as possible? Hon LJILJANNA RAVLICH

I thank the member for some notice for this question and provide the response on behalf of the Minister for Education and Training. (1) Yes, the Department of Housing and Works has advised that the odour problem resulted from a vent outlet discharging underneath a veranda roof. The outlet has now been raised and the odour should no longer be an issue. There are no known health concerns with the toilets. (2)-(3) The replacement of the prefabricated transportable toilets at Walkaway Primary School will be given every consideration for replacement once toilets at schools with high priority are either upgraded or replaced.
