HALLS CREEK — DIESEL FUEL SPILL
I refer to the recent diesel fuel spill in Halls Creek. (1) How can the minister be confident that no diesel fuel has contaminated the groundwater supply? (2) What testing has been done and what ongoing testing is planned to ensure that the groundwater supply is free from diesel fuel contamination? Hon HELEN MORTON

I thank the member for the question. The Minister for Water has provided the following response — (1) Groundwater samples have been taken by the Water Corporation at the production bore closest to the diesel spill for testing, and at other, more distant, production bores. (2) Test results from the corporation’s production bore closest to the spill site show that hydrocarbons have not been detected. An ongoing monitoring program will be undertaken to ensure that the water supply at Halls Creek continues to be safe to drink.
