1242. Hon Dr Brad Pettitt to the minister representing the Minister for Corrective
Services:
I refer to unit 18.
(1) What was the population of unit 18 on Sunday 7
December 2025?
(2) What were the ages of the children in (1)?
(3) What is the youngest age of a child ever
detained in unit 18?
(4) On how many instances has a child as young as
in (3) been detained in unit 18?

I thank the member
for some notice of the question. The following answer has been provided by the Minister
for Corrective Services.
The Department of
Justice advises the following.
(1) It was seven young people at midnight.
(2) There were five 16-year-olds and two
17-year-olds.
(3) It is 13 years old as of midnight on 8
December 2025.
(4) Two. One young person aged 13 years old has
been held at unit 18. This young person was placed at unit 18 twice while aged
13.
