ALCOHOL AND DRUG EDUCATION — LIQUOR
CONTROL ACT AMENDMENTS
448. Hon LINDA
SAVAGE to the Leader of the House representing the Minister for Racing
and Gaming:
I refer to the letter dated 14 June 2012 from the McCusker
Centre for Action on Alcohol and Youth and to the Education and Health Standing
Committee's tenth report, ''Alcohol: Reducing the Harm and
Curbing the Culture of Excess''. Does the government intend to —
(a) introduce
mandatory, well-supported alcohol and drug education as a specific component in
the curriculum for all Western Australian school students;
(b) make
amendments to the Liquor Control Act 1988 to insert a clause that a person must
not supply alcohol to a minor or a juvenile unless that person has obtained the
consent of the minor or juvenile's parent or legal guardian; and, if
so, when will it introduce these amendments;
(c) make
amendments to the Liquor Control Act 1988 to allow the police to conduct
controlled purchasing operations to assist in the identification and
prosecution of licensees suspected of breaching the act by selling alcohol to
minors; and
(d) undertake
a major consultative review of the Liquor Control Act 1988; and, if so, when is
this likely to occur?

appropriate for this question to be asked of the Minister for Education, as
