Notes: 1. The numbers presented are distinct individuals and it may be possible that a small number of individuals may have been imprisoned more than once in a calendar year, but counted only once.
2. The recording of indigenous status of accused appearing in the Magistrates Court is good. Records are less precise about the indigenous status ofaccused appearing in higher courts and so may be an underestimate.
(2) The only information available concerning assaults against public officers is for assaults where the accused is charged under s318 of the Criminal Code. However it is possible that the victim of any other offence listed could have been a public officer.
