OVERCROWDING
812. Mr Z.R.F. KIRKUP to the Minister for Corrective
Services:
I have a supplementary question. I thank
the minister for his response to that question. The Office of the Inspector of
Custodial Services has spoken about overcrowding and pressure in the prison
system. Has the minister taken any tangible actions to ensure that we are
responding to those incidents and are trying to prevent them from occurring in
the first place?

We have been over this many times in
this house. I do not know why the member for Dawesville keeps asking the same
question.
Mr Z.R.F. Kirkup : We don't
get the answers!
Mr F.M. LOGAN : No. It is
there in black and white for the member for Dawesville. He chooses not to tell
the truth. It has been announced over and again that we are providing over 800
beds into the system. We are providing 512 new beds in Casuarina and 160 beds
in Bunbury. We have introduced Australia's first drug rehabilitation
prison at Wandoo Rehabilitation Prison. These are all the things that the
member's government failed to do.
Several members interjected.
The SPEAKER : Members!
Mr F.M. LOGAN : These are all
the things that the Liberal–National government failed to do in four
years.
Mr D.T. Redman interjected.
The SPEAKER : Member for
Warren–Blackwood, you are on three calls. You are obviously not getting
the message. Next time, you are going home early.
Mr F.M. LOGAN : It failed to
do it in four years. I advise the member for Dawesville—we will go
through this at length in this house one day—that the Liberal–National
government did nothing in Corrections from 2013 to 2017. We will go through it
bit by bit. As the Minister for Corrective Services, I am fixing up the mess
that the member's government left us.
