406. Hon KEN TRAVERS to the minister representing the
Minister for Transport:
I refer to the
works to add third lanes in the Graham Farmer Freeway tunnel.
(1) Do the
works include —
(a) any work
to enhance the ability to close the tunnel; and
(b) the
ability to close individual lanes well in advance of the tunnel entrance if a
lane becomes blocked or obstructed?
(2) If yes to
(1), what works will be undertaken to allow this to occur?
(3) How far
from the entrance to the tunnel will any warning signs be erected to indicate a
lane is blocked or obstructed?
(4) What type
of signage will be used to warn people of obstructions or blockages in the
tunnel?

honourable member for some notice of this question. Main Roads advises as
follows.
(1) (a) Yes.
(b) No.
(2) Electronic
signs will be added.
(3)–(4)
The variable message signs that are currently used to warn motorists of lane
closures in the tunnel will continue to be used.
