ST JOHN AMBULANCE — PARAMEDICS AND
VOLUNTEERS —SUICIDES — CHIEF PSYCHIATRIST'S COMMENTS
239. Hon ADELE FARINA to the
parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Health:
I refer to the Chief Psychiatrist's
comments at paragraph 3.3.4 of his report into the deaths by suicide of five St
John Ambulance paramedics and volunteers, in which he states there are
situations in which a paramedic or volunteer's mental health and
wellbeing is so seriously compromised that the process is no longer appropriate
and may need to be amended or suspended, and to recommendation 4, calling for a
review of St John's performance management process to provide for such
circumstances.
(1) Has the minister asked St John
Ambulance to implement recommendation 4?
(2) If no to (1), why not?
(3) What time frame has been
provided to St John Ambulance to implement recommendation 4?
(4) Will the minister table the
revised performance management procedures?
(5) If no to (4), why not?
