WATER CORPORATION — WASTEWATER DISCHARGE
556. Mr D.J. KELLY to the Minister for Water:
I have a supplementary question. If
the minister is so happy with what happened that night, will he require the
Water Corporation to release those witness statements to me so that the public
can see what happened that night, rather than try to cover up, which is what
has happened today? Release the statements, minister!

I am not happy when there is a
breakdown of any of the infrastructure that the Water Corporation manages. I am
not happy with those incidents. We do not want them to happen. We try to make
sure that if assets do break down, they are returned to service as quickly as
possible. I will take on notice the request that the member is making around
witness statements and the like. The fact is that there was a lot of activity
during the middle of that night to manage what was a very, very difficult
incident. I believe on all the advice that has been given to me that that was
managed very well. I guess the ultimate measure for the public around issues of
sewage adjacent to the wetland at Lake Joondalup is that all the measures that
came back from the local government assessment of that incident were that there
were no concerns about human health and environmental factors that would have
been detrimental to that lake.
