With the decision to pump water from the Harris Dam into other dams, including the Stirling Dam, it is inevitable that redfin perch will find a way to enter the Stirling Dam. Will the minister inform the House whether any consideration has been given to the effect that redfin perch will have on brown and rainbow trout, and to the effect that their predation will have on marron stocks? Hon NICK GRIFFITHS

I thank the member for some notice of this question. I note that the Minister for Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries and other wonderful things has a very keen interest in this issue, as do I. A field survey conducted during 1998-99 and reported by Streamtec Pty Ltd in February 1999 confirmed the presence of redfin perch in the Harvey River above Stirling Dam.
