(e) does the Minister consider people with a drug and alcohol addiction to have a mental health problem;
(f) is there a risk that if DAO is transferred into WA Mental Health, this may result in a decline in patients self-referring to DAO because of public and social misconceptions about mental health conditions;
(g) will DAO retain a separate board; and
(h) will DAO retain a separate Executive Director?

(1) No, the Drug and Alcohol Office (DAO) is not being transferred into the Western Australian Department of Health's Mental Health Division (MHD). However, it has been transferred into the portfolio of the Minister for Mental Health.
(2)(a) There are a common group of people with both mental health and alcohol and drug problems and having MHD and the DAO in the same portfolio will improve coordination of services for these people.
It is estimated that 30% to 50% of the general population who have a mental health disorder also experience an alcohol and drug use disorder.
