I refer to the ministerial review of the building and construction industry training fund levy completed in July 2002 and the response to question without notice 1357. (1) Is it the intention of the minister to remove or consider removing the exemptions for - (a) the mining industry; (b) the oil industry; (c) the gas industry; (d) the agriculture industry; and (e) government enterprise? (2) If the southern railway is built within the proposed budget of $1.4 billion, how much will be payable to the fund? Hon KEN TRAVERS

On behalf of the parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Education and Training, I thank the honourable member for some notice of this question. (1)(a)-(e) Section 3(1)(a)-(e) of the Building and Construction Industry Training Fund and Levy Collection Regulations specifically excludes these sectors. There is no intention to change this regulation. (2) The Act requires a levy of 0.182 per cent of the construction component of the project. The $1.4 billion project would include costs other than construction.
