(1) Is it true that a lease on an area of land referred to as Kanpa, located approximately 100 kilometres west-south-west of Warburton, was granted to the Warburton Community in middle to late 1993 for the establishment of a bail facility for the benefit of Aboriginal offenders resident in the Ngaanyatjarra lands? (2) Is it also true that the Ministry of Justice provided a substantial grant of money for use in the development of the facility? (3) Will the minister advise whether Kanpa still operates as a bail facility under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Justice? The Attorney General has provided the following response - (1) The Ministry of Justice was not involved in any leasing agreement at Kanpa, nor the establishment of a bail facility. The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Commission funded a bail facility for Aboriginal juveniles. (2) No. A fee-for-service was put in place for juveniles placed at the hostel. (3) No. (4) Not applicable.
