I refer to a commitment by the previous Liberal Government in 1998 to delete part of the Cockburn section of the Fremantle-Rockingham controlled access highway that runs through Beeliar Regional Park. (1) Is the Government considering any proposal for the land currently planned for deletion? (2) If yes, what are those proposals? (3) In March 2002, did the parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Planning and Infrastructure say that the Department for Planning and Infrastructure was to present a report to the Perth regional planning committee in April 2002 to formally initiate the metropolitan region scheme amendment for this section of the Fremantle-Rockingham highway? (4) If yes to (3), will the minister table the report? (5) If the report was not submitted, why not? Hon KEN TRAVERS

I thank the member for some notice of this question. (1)-(2) The majority of the land currently covered by the primary regional road reservation is proposed to be reserved for parks and recreation and will be included in Beeliar Regional Park. The remainder will be zoned industrial and reserved as other regional roads, reflecting the realigned Cockburn Road as constructed. (3)-(5) The process to amend the metropolitan region scheme was initiated in December 2002. The amendment has been referred to the Environmental Protection Authority and does not require formal assessment. The EPA requires the consent of the Minister for Planning and Infrastructure to advertise for public submissions. All the information on the proposal will be available in the near future when public submissions will be sought.
